Ms. Fenster offers clients specialized know-how in digital media legal issues to minimize risk and create value, as well as to structure and negotiate business arrangements with third parties to achieve beneficial results.
Julie Fenster has over 15 years of experience working with companies in digital media and technology. In 1995, she was tapped to establish the Internet Law Practice at Time Inc., the largest publisher in the world and the first major media company to make a significant investment in developing its own online presence. As Vice President, Law and Business Affairs, Time Inc. New Media, Ms. Fenster was instrumental in creating its legal infrastructure and in negotiating deals with its distribution partners and service providers.
Ms. Fenster's combination of legal skills and training, along with experience overseeing the operations of ParentTime LLC (as General Manager), business development and strategy of another digital media company (EVP, Strategy and Business Development, Worth Interactive), enables her to provide business-oriented solutions to her clients. She offers clients specialized know-how and guidance in minimizing risk and creating value, and structuring and negotiating contracts with third parties to achieve beneficial results.
Prior to founding the Office of Julie R. Fenster, Ms. Fenster served as Vice President, Business Affairs & General Counsel at Everyday Health, Inc. (formerly, Waterfront Media, Inc.), a leading online health information services company. As Everyday Health's first General Counsel, she structured major online licensing, publishing, marketing and distribution contracts, handled all of the company's technology and software licensing agreements, and standardized deal structures and agreements.
Ms. Fenster began her career as a corporate associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett in New York City, where she gained broad exposure to high profile M&A, management-led buyouts and other forms of corporate transactions. Ms. Fenster studied philosophy, politics and economics at St. Hilda's College, Oxford University, earned an AB at Brown University, where she was elected Phi Beta Kappa, and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. After finishing Law School, Ms. Fenster served as a law clerk to the Honorable John A. MacKenzie, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Virginia. She is currently a member of the New York state bar.
In addition, Ms. Fenster is the current President of the Board of the Center for Children's Initiatives, Inc. (formerly known as Child Care, Inc.), a 501(c)(3) child care and early education resource and referral agency in New York City.
